Eligibility For Admission

An applicant who has graduated in any discipline of knowledge from a University established by an Act of Parliament or by a State Legislature or an equivalent National Institution recognized as a deemed University or Foreign University recognized as equivalent to the status of an Indian University by an authority competent to declare equivalence, may apply for 3 year degree course in Law.

For admission to the 3 Year LL.B. Course, a person shall possess a Degree of any University with a minimum percentage of 45% in the Degree Examinations and 40% in case of SC and ST applicants. The student should have undertaken 10+2+3 pattern of studies.

Student seeking admission to the first Year should submit the following documents at the time of admission:

1.Original Marks card of the SSLC/10th class, P.U.C/12th/10+2, and of Degree with one set of photocopies.

2.Convocation/Degree Certificate.

3.Transfer Certificate from previous Institution.

4.Migration Certificate for students from outside Karnataka State.

5.Seven Passport size photographs.

The 3-year LLB (Hons) is a postgraduate professional degree programme that is open to graduates from all disciplines. It is a qualifying degree for admission to legal practice. The programme meets all requirements of the Bar Council of India, and builds on top of that to deliver a rigorous legal education in keeping with NLSIU’s unique curricular and pedagogic approach. The programme is structured around interdisciplinary study of the law combined with experiential learning. The programme will bridge theory and practice. It is designed to produce lawyers who meet the challenges of the 21st century. The 3-year LLB (Hons) is a full-time programme. Admission to the programme is on the basis of all-India National entrance test (NLSAT-LLB). The Academic Year usually commences on July 1. Please note, 75% attendance is mandated for each course offered under the programme.

Candidates passing the examination of all the semester as provided above shall be awarded following classes:

  • Student Securing 40% and above but less than 50% shall be declared as Pass Class.
  • Those students securing 50% and above but less than 60% of the aggregate of the total marks prescribed for the examination shall be placed in Second Class.
  • Those students securing 60% and above but less than 70% shall be placed in First Class.
  • Cash price of Rs.10,000/- will be awarded for students who score 85% to 95%.
  • Students who secure 95% and above in PUC and Degree examination are fully exempted from paying admission fees (have to pay only university fees) at the time of admission to 1st Year Law Courses.
  • The rank of a candidate at LL.B. examination shall be declared on the basis of the marks secured in all the papers of all the 6 semesters’ examinations (excluding clinical course marks). No candidate shall be eligible for a rank unless he/she has passed each of the examinations, i.e., each of I to X semesters in first attempt.
